A Good Weekend

It was a good weekend. We had lunch on Sunday after church with some of our missionary friends. Nathan just loves hanging out with the other MKs. It’s funny to think of him as a missionary kid. Anyway, we had a pretty good weekend.

I LOVE Thursday afternoons

Just wanted to pop in and say how much I love Thursday afternoons. Why? Because I know that I don’t have class again until Tuesday morning (7 am). It means that I have unscheduled time, and I do lots of cool stuff in my unscheduled time. Research, read, prepare for class, and especially spend time with my family. It’s a great feeling, even if I’m crazy tired from getting up at 5:30 am.

5 Things we miss about Dunedin

Due to Matt’s comment on the previous post, we are proud to present our list of 5 things we miss from Dunedin, Florida.

  1. Dinner at the Kalil’s house every Tuesday night. We used to eat chicken parm every Tuesday night with some of the coolest people in the world. After dinner, we would go to church for Livewire, a crazy skateboarding program we had at church. We miss those days.
  2. Flag football with all our old crazy youth group kids. We used to play in a flag football league every Saturday morning during the fall with a bunch of crazy kids. We were pretty good, too. We had a good team that always seemed to finish second. But we were definitely the best looking team in the league.
  3. Our home church and all the people there. We miss the fellowship with all the people from our home church. They are great people, and we always look forward to seeing them again.
  4. The causeway (sunsets, just being close to the beach). We now live at least 4 hours from the beach, and although we don’t like sand, the sunsets in Dunedin and the wind blowing on the beach are awesome things.
  5. Marble Slab ice cream (tied with Outback Steakhouse). We couldn’t get through this list without mentioning two of the greatest culinary delights around. We love the ice cream at Marble Slab (we used to go there at least once a week) and of course the steak at Outback.

Honorable Mention

The terms for being picked for honorable mention in my previous post are as follows:

The places that qualified for honorable mention are places that we either do not visit weekly (i.e. the Torbert’s house, McDonalds, Comercial Mexicana, Home Depot or Plaza Satelite) or places where work could possibly be done (i.e. Starbucks). The places we do not visit weekly are places we visit probably every other week. Sorry for any confusion. Being on the “places we frequent” list does not necessarily make these places we like to visit.

In the case of the Torbert house, we LOVE to go over there, often unnanounced. Sometimes, we like to stay really late so people don’t do their homework, etc. Anyway, just wanted to clear that up (since they are some of the only people who read this blog anyway).

Five places we frequent

Since we already gave you 5 places to visit in Mexico City, here are the 5 non-work related places we visit every week along with the things we buy there or do:

  • Costco: We go there to buy milk (imported from the US), diapers, chicken, and beef. Nathan likes to sample the cheese they’re always giving out.
  • Wal-Mart: Now that they opened the new one, it’s become our favorite place to get most of our groceries, vegetables, and other things.
  • Sam’s Club: We love going here for diapers and mini chocolate donuts (they’re delicious).
  • Fun Burger and Coffee: This place is a great place for Nathan to play. We’ll pretty much buy anything for an excuse for Nathan to play on their playground. We usually get Krispy Kremes in this plaza, and then we take Nathan to the playground.
  • Los Arcos: This is our favorite taqueria (taco restaurant). Janell always orders alambre con queso, while I like tacos al pastor, and we order a taco de bistec for Nathan.

Going to Ecuador

Ecuador mapThanks to a special donation response to the request in our last newsletter, today we purchased our tickets to Ecuador. We’ll be going in October to meet up with people from all over Latin America who are training youth workers.

This is the first time we will have met with these guys, and we are looking forward to getting to know them. Finally, we’ll have the chance to be with people who understand exactly what we do because they are doing the same thing. Thanks to those who helped us with the donations.
