Tonight was the opening night of the seminary year. There was a great worship service followed by some food, fellowship, and games. In this picture, I’m running with Israel, a first year youth ministry student. You can see who is losing.
Orientation: Tomorrow is Orientation at the seminary. It turns out that we have about 25 new students in the whole seminary. It’s amazing how things all come together in the end here. We’re still not sure about how many youth ministry students we’ll have, but I’m sure I’ll have about 5 in my first class. That’s a pretty good start, considering a few weeks ago I was wondering if we’d have any. I’m sure you’ll all get to know them well through this site as we keep you updated on how we are doing at the seminary.
Airport and Birthday Party: We’ve been to the airport two times in the last 2 days. Yesterday, we took a MK teacher to the airport. She was going to Cancun to visit her parents. We waited for almost 3 hours for the US Airways office to open so we could get our plane tickets to Orlando for the Association of Youth Ministry Educators conference that is happening October 22-24. We were trading some vouchers we got for tickets. It worked, so we are headed to Orlando in October.
We went to a birthday party for Russell Herrington, the academic dean at the seminary, last night. A bunch of us missionaries played games and ate banana pudding (his favorite) for the party. It was fun.
This morning, we took another friend of ours to the airport at 7 am. It’s the best time to drive to the airport because there is no traffic. We made it there and back in less than an hour. Usually, it takes an hour just to get there.
Lunch: Yesterday, we had a great lunch with Josue Santos and his family. Josue is the pastor at Dios Es Amor, and we were discussing our relationship with their church and the relationship of the church with the seminary. This church is going to be a vital part of the seminary program to train youth workers. It will serve for the “Obra Practica” as the laboratory where the students will get hands on, supervised youth ministry experience as well as have the opportunity to be mentored in youth ministry. This is one of the distinctives of our youth ministry program, and we are excited about this partnership with Dios Es Amor.
Prospective Student: This morning I met with a prospective youth ministry student. We have less than 2 weeks until classes start, but I am excited that there is some interest in the youth ministry program. Please pray for us in the next few weeks as we prepare for classes. Also pray for this student’s decision as he tries to decide what he should take.
We’re back: Well, we’re home. After a long day yesterday, we finally arrived back at home here in Mexico City. We were both out of the country. Janell went to Florida to see the family, and I went to Kentucky for some YMI meetings. We both had a great time and accomplished many things while we were away, but it is always good to be back. We now are busy preparing…Janell for school with the MKs and Dennis for seminary. Classes at the seminary start the 26th and for Janell, classes start the 30th of August. Please pray for us as we prepare.
