McDonalds fun

I love this picture of Nathan and his cousin Andrew at McDonald’s from our time in the US. They had a great time playing together at the park and then at McDonalds.

Thanksgiving – A foreign holiday

11-24-06 Thanksgiving Day 015

We had to do a few interesting things to celebrate Thanksgiving in Mexico. Since it’s not celebrated here, and many of the things that we have in the USA aren’t here, we had to improvise. For example:

  • To make sausage stuffing, we had to cut open breakfast sausage links to get the sausage meat out of the casings.
  • We had to import stuffing mix.
  • We had to go to a store that has mostly American products (Waldo’s Mart) to buy canned green beans.
  • We didn’t get to watch the Dolphins’ game because they only showed the Cowboys and Buccaneers game.
  • We had to do our DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING shopping online. (Actually, that was better than fighting the crowds.)
  • We got lucky that there was no youth ministry class at the seminary on Thursday (but there was class today).

We’re not complaining. We are very thankful that we could eat Thanksgiving meal together as a family and spend time with our friends last night. We are very blessed and thankful to serve in Mexico. THANK YOU for your continued support and prayers for us and the ministry here.

Thanksgiving in Mexico

Virginia Turkey Producto de Chile

Here are two pictures of our Thanksgiving turkey this year. We bought it from Sam’s Club here in Mexico. The name brand is “Virginia Turkey.” When we read that, we thought that it must be imported from Virginia, USA. Then we kept reading the packaging to find out that it is a product of Chile. I wonder if it is from Virginia, Chile. It didn’t taste any different than any other turkey we’ve had before. In fact, it was delicious. It was the first time Janell cooked a turkey by herself, and it was great!

Apple Pie apple cake

Then there was dessert! We have apple pie, apple cake, and a cheesecake. Wow. What a spread for the three of us. We did bring some of the cake to the meal we had with the other missionaries, but that still left us with a lot of food. In fact, we’re not even finished eating.

Monkeying Around

Nathan hanging aroundYesterday, I had class in the morning, so I decided I’d take the afternoon off and be with Janell and Nathan (since I’ll be working on Saturday – more on that later).

We decided to go to Parque Naucalli. It’s a gigantic park just down the street, and it has a ton of room to play. During the week, it’s not that busy, either, so we took Nathan. My favorite part was the teeter totter. It had been a long time since I had been on one of those. Nathan loved everything. He even got to chase some pigeons (Watch the video). He calls every bird a duck. It was fun.

In the picture, he is actually hanging on the monkey bars (with Janell protecting him). He is a strong boy, and he was laughing about it, too. It was a fun day.
