An Old Friend

When we first came to Mexico, we worked very closely with a pastor who soon became a good friend. His name was Josue Santos. He was one of the people who were inviting us to do youth ministry training in this country. About 6 years ago, he moved to Houston.

Today, we had the great opportunity to see him again and eat breakfast with him. It was great to catch up with the present, remember old times, and let him meet our kids. I’m glad he took the time to come see us today.

I wonder if there’s someone from your past you could get back in touch with this weekend. Wouldn’t that be pretty cool?

A long week Apart

[The boys on Sunday ready to get mommy]

Last week Janell and Shiloh went to Florida to visit family, leaving me alone with the two boys. It was a fun (and difficult) week, and we were all excited for them to come home last night.

Being a Dad is…

Being a Dad is a lot of things. This week, I’ve spent a lot of time with my two boys. Janell is out of town, and I’m alone with my two big guys. It’s been fun, challenging, funny, exhausting, and many other things.

Last night it was time to go to bed, and they wanted candy. I told them no because it was time to go to bed. They had already stayed up later than normal, and I was ready for them to go to sleep. Well, Ben had a tantrum. I pulled out my phone and recorded it. I hope one day he will watch this and laugh, too.

Examples

When I was a kid, we used to sing, “Oh be careful little hands what you do; oh be careful, little hands what you do. For the Father up above is looking down with love; oh be careful little hands what you do.”

That song was to remind us that God is always watching what we do, but yesterday, I noticed something that reminded me of the song.

Nathan was sitting on the couch playing on the computer. His little brother watched him playing the computer, went into his bedroom, and got out the toy computer that they have so he could play on it, too. He copied everything Nathan did, using the computer to do “work.”

Janell’s Birthday

Janell’s birthday was last Saturday, and we had some friends over to eat cake that Ben helped her make. Here’s what we sing in Mexico at church before you eat the cake.

Exceedingly Abundantly Above

When we moved into our new house, Nathan was so excited because he had a friend to play with at the Seminary. But when we returned to Mexico this past summer, we found out that his friend’s family was moving. So we prayed (and asked some of our friends to pray) that God would send him some friends to play with at the Seminary.
