Graduation 2006

Today was graduation at the seminary. Paco graduated with six other students. The worst part about graduation is that the teachers have to wear caps and gowns, too. Plus we have to sit up in front of everyone, which is never all that fun. It was a good ceremony, though. I’m glad the year is over, even though it’s been pretty good. This year was filled with all sorts of weird stuff as far as youth ministry students go. Anyway, now it’s time to prepare for next year, my third year at the seminary.

Programming class

constructionbackgroundI’m spending my time preparing for my Programming class that I’ll be teaching in a few weeks. It is a class on youth ministry administration, so I am using a construction theme. I was working today on some graphics for introductions to sections, the cover of the notes, and for the Powerpoint. The picture to the left is something I came up with. So far, I don’t like the letters/font I used. I need it to stand out more. Anyway, this is what I have so far. The outline for the class goes a little like this:

Constructing a Plan for Youth Ministry Programming

  • Laying the foundation: Prayer and Philosophy
  • Developing a Team: Volunteer staff
  • Sketching the blueprint: Calendar and long-term planning
  • Finishing the details: Event planning
  • Specific needs: Camps, Ministry Teams, Small groups, large groups, Worship
  • Safety Procedures

Have Money, Will Vlog

As many of you know, we put videos on our blog, a practice known as videoblogging. Well, videobloggers are quite a community of people. They help each other with technical problems, and they also help financially with various projects. Recently, Erin needed some help getting to a videoblogging convention, so the other vloggers pitched in to help.

Today, a new website has been created to help videobloggers with various projects. It is called www.havemoneywillvlog.com, and the concept is simple. A videoblogger submits a project and a financial need, and the community pulls together to help find the funds for the project. People can donate on the site, and the project will receive the money when the goal is met. It’s as simple as that. The individuals in the community will either donate a little themselves or seek ways to spread the word about the project. It’s the “many hands make light work” of fundraising. Check it out here.

Please pray

I just got an email from a student of mine in Cuba, telling me that one of the other students, Miguel, was in a serious car accident and is in the hospital. He and his family were in a taxi, coming from the doctor, when another car had a blowout and hit them. His 6 year old son lost his arm in the accident, and Miguel also is in danger of losing his arm. Please pray for this family. Thank you.

The US Soccer team played last night against Morocco. Unfortunately, they lost 1-0. It was part of a three game “send off” series before they go to Germany for the World Cup. They play again on Friday night against Venezuela. There were 26,141 fans at the game last night. Funny that here in Mexico, there were 100,000 fans at their team’s last game.
