Youth Emphasis Week in November

Youth Emphasis Week will be November 14-17 at the seminary this year. I’m still working on the theme, schedule, and speaker, but it’s going to be unlike anything we’ve ever had at out seminary. This will be the first youth emphasis week of the year. The other will be in February. The one in November will basically be only in chapel for the seminary students. I’m excited about the possibilities, and I’m looking forward to sharing the vision for youth ministry with the other students at the seminary who don’t have any idea about what goes on in the youth ministry classes.

The Knight Parable

knightenglish

If you’re interested in the parable I wrote to preach on the journey towards spiritual maturity in church last week, post a comment and I’ll send you the file. There’s a lot that could be included in it, but it basically outlines 5 steps that a young man takes to become a fully devoted knight of the King.

  1. Responds to the invitation of the King
  2. Draws close to the fellowship of the knights
  3. Learns from the writings of the King
  4. Loves the people like the King loves them
  5. Accepts the challenge to be fully devoted

I preached it in Spanish, so the steps were alliterative, but I haven’t had much time to work on it English, yet. I spent the major part of the time telling the story, and then I asked the listeners where they were in the story. The purpose of a good story is to connect your life with the events of the story. That was my goal with this parable. Anyway, I had said I would post about it, so there it is.

Students leading camp

campamento

I got this picture from one of my students who just finished leading a camp for more than 200 middle schoolers. The letter says in English,

I want to take this opportunity to write to you and share about our experience in the middle school summer camp. We had a group of 200 and the Lord was glorified in all the things we did.

Thank the Lord it was a victorious week where we could minister to these teens and be a blessing for them. It was in this camp that I could see the results of the time you all have spent with us and that it has been a big blessing.

Programming a camp was part of the class I taught in January. It’s always nice to get some positive feedback from students and to see them actively involved in ministry.

An easy trip to the movies

This afternoon, Carson and I went to see Superman Returns. It just opened here last Friday, and the movies in Mexico are discounted on Wednesdays (that’s right, every Wednesday, it’s only 30 pesos – less than $3 US), so we knew there would be a ton of people at the theater.

The showing was at 4:20, so we left the house early, around 3:40. When we arrived at the theater (in one of the malls), the sign said there were 167 seats left for the English version at 4:20. When I got to the counter, the guy said that they had suspended the showing and the next one in English was at 9 pm. Arrrgggghh!

So, we called Janell, and she told us that the showing at the OTHER mall was at 5:40. So, we went there, and there were plenty of tickets. But we had like a whole hour to kill. We went to the arcade and played some video games. Then we went to the movie. I thought it was great. I especially liked Lex Luther. He did a great job as a bad guy. It was a really good movie, even if it was a little long. Despite the problems, I had a great time with Carson.
