Ministry is hard!

Okay…I knew this before today, but the last week especially has reminded me a lot about how difficult ministry is. We have been dealing with a lot of “situations” lately. None of them have been personal problems, thank God, but nonetheless, we are involved in them through relationships, and we have seen numerous people hurt. I know that God is in control, but ministry is a difficult calling. It’s a good thing we’re not alone and that God is in control of it all.

Possibly St Nick?

I’m getting in the Christmas spirit since we leave for Florida tomorrow at 6:30 AM. We’re flying to Orlando and then driving over the the west coast. We are excited. I saw this article online today and thought you might be interested. Could this be the real face of St. Nick?

Second bimester final grades

Today was the deadline to turn in grades for MJ 120. After waiting all day for some final work to be turned in late, here is what the grades ended up being. I hope that next bimester will be better.

Loooooong Sunday

Talk about a long Sunday!!! It always seems like Christmas time is full of activity. Our life here is no different. I was talking with a seminary student the other day and said to him that Christmastime should be a time of activity…we are celebrating the arrival of a King! The King of kings. It is exciting!

Having said that, yesterday didn’t disappoint, being full of activities. We went to the early service at church at 9 am so we could make it to the missionary fellowship we were invited to at 11 am. After leaving there early around 1, we went to Costco to print some Christmas cards we made for some friends and home to prepare for the church youth group Christmas party that started at 5. We had fudge, cookies, and all sorts of goodies that Janell baked yesterday. Around 8:30, after the breaking of the piata and ensuing scrum for candy, the party was over (that’s a short party in Mexico). Around 9:20, Huberto, one of the youth ministry students, came over to turn in some work for Culture class, and he stayed until about 11:30. No wonder this morning I feel like I need a Mint Mocha from Starbucks.

Seminary Christmas party 04

Russell Annette and Ivan Tonight was the seminary Christmas dinner/party. It just so happens that when we went to Texas for Thanksgiving, we picked up some gifts for the children of the seminary students and brought them back. Tonight, Russell and Annette Herrington handed out the gifts to the children. Tomorrow is the final exam in culture class and the Christmas concert, too. Final grades are due on Monday.

Christmas Dinner with Dix and Torberts

Tonight we went to the Torbert‘s house with the Dix family and had “Christmas Dinner.” There was ham, roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, hash brown casserole, and lots of other good food. It is really great that God has provided us with a family away from home to share special moments with during the holidays and “normal” days of our lives. We are truly blessed to have friends like these.
