Yesterday was the second installment of “Class in Starbucks.” Rigo, Israel, Huberto, and I went to Starbucks at 9 AM and stayed until about 11:15 for two classes in MJ 140. It was a good discussion on camps and how to put one together. I am encouraging them to try to visit M-Fuge this summer in Guadalajara to check out a quality camp.
Last night was bowling night with the youth group from Dios Es Amor. It went pretty well. There were 11 of us in total. Like everything here, it neither started nor ended on time. Overall, though, I think that the experience was good. We got to hang out and talk to each other in a very informal setting. Paty came, which was a good thing. She’s the one who’s brother died a few weeks ago. I had fun, but I’m very tired. This has been a crazy week with seminary, convention meetings, Bible study on Friday night, class on Saturday morning, bowling on Saturday night, and church and youth group today. Tomorrow I have a faculty meeting at the seminary and am planning on taking the afternoon off for Valentine’s Day. Whew! We’ve been busy.
We had less than usual at MCCA Bible study tonight because the juniors and seniors were at a Velentine’s banquet they planned for the parents this week. It was still fun, though. The Bible study was on how to study the Bible, and it turned into good discussion about the always difficult questions of “If people don’t hear about Jesus, will they go to heaven?” We had a great time with them as usual.

This is Janell six months pregnant. We hadn’t taken any pictures of her yet, and we figured that her mother and sisters would love to see her pregnant. So here she is.
Last night we had about 20 people at our house from our church for a “Super Bowl party.” Funny thing is that Mexicans don’t really care about the Super Bowl. Since we didn’t really care about it either this year, it was pretty fun. We had a great time with them, and we got to hang out with many of the young people from the church. The youth group has been growing a lot in the last few weeks, and we have had many new people coming. This party gave us the opportunity to get to know the new ones and the old ones better. This Saturday, we’re going bowling to see if we can’t develop stronger bonds as a group.
Today I taught the first class of MJ 140 to Israel, Rigo, and Huberto in Starbucks. I am teaching it early to try to get finished in time to go home in April. We had a good talk about camps and retreats and also about youth ministry in general.
After class, I came home and took Janell to Costco to buy some things for our Superbowl party that we will be having tomorrow with the youth group from Dios Es Amor. I also worked on some homework for Jonathan Edwards class.
Oh…by the way…I’m really happy to hear that Dan Marino was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame today.
Here’s an update on my Master’s studies at Columbia Biblical Seminary. I am currently studying “The Theology of Jonathan Edwards.” It is perhaps one of the most difficult classes I have taken so far. The books use a font size that is unbelievably small, and Jonathan Edwards makes you think. He was a genius and had a great impact on American Christianity. I’m learning a lot, but please pray that I’ll have the time and diligence needed to complete the class on time.
