We’re going to Miami: Tomorrow is the big day. We leave for Miami tomorrow morning at 10:30. We are renting a car in Tampa, then we drive to West Palm Beach. We’ll stay the night there, and on Wednesday, we fly out of Miami airport non-stop to Mexico City. We have a friend picking us up, and on Thursday we go to Cuernavaca (an hour south) for langauge school, which starts on Monday. It’s so hard to believe it’s here already. We’ve almost finished packing, but there’s still some work to be done, so I better get going on that.

Visiting Family: Today we visited our family. We took some more of our stuff to Janell’s mom’s house, visited my grandmother and dad, and also went to Janell’s dad’s house. It was a long day, but it is good to see our family before we move. Only a few more days until we fly to Mexico.

NATIONAL BAPTIST CONVENTION: “Centenario” means 100th year celebration. That’s what the Mexican Baptist Convention was celebrating this week. There were over 600 people in attendance for this week-long convention, and we had the opportunity to share with them about a new program in youth ministry at the seminary in Mexico City. It was a great opportunity for us as we met with many pastors and intereseted students throughout the week.

HOREB and SION: Sunday was a busy day as we went to 2 churches. The first one was called Sion (Zion) Baptist Church. We had the opportunity to share about the importance of youth ministry in the local church – about how God loves, calls, and uses young people. We shared the fact that the population of Mexico is getting younger and the churches need to empower their young people to reach their friends. For the evening service, we attended Horeb Baptist Church. The pastor of this church is the president of the National Baptist Convention of Mexico. They have specific ministries to 4 groups of young people. Horeb is a church that is growing, and they are excited about youth ministry.

Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca: We went to Cuernavaca today to check out the language school we will be attending. It was a great trip. We also visited some ancient ruins. I will post some pictures when I get home. Tomorrow we will be in 2 churches promoting the youth ministry program at the seminary. The one we will be at in the evening is the church of the president of the Mexican Baptist Convention. This trip has been great! Oh, by the way, today is our anniversary. Hate to be away from each other on this important occasion. Well, I will be back on Monday. Thanks.

National Baptist Convention: Well, I am here in Mexico. We are having a great time attending the 100th anniversary of the National Baptist Convention of Mexico. We have been promoting the new youth major that we will be directing at the seminary, and we have had a lot of fun along the way. Tonight we watched the US soccer team lose to Brazil in extra time. What a disappointment. The winner probably will play Mexico in the final here in Mexico City. Oh well.

We have met a lot of great people and had many great contacts. We are looking forward to making new friends both with nationals and with other missionaries while we are here working in Mexico. Please keep praying for Randy and I as we continue to network and promote the program. Thanks!
