This is exactly what I needed today. I came home from an extremely long day (class, meetings, youth meeting at church) to this funny story about a guy named Ronald McDonald who is suspected in a robbery of a Wendy’s restaurant. Hilarious.
Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Mexico. It is not a day out of school. It is not a day off of work. The day after Thanksgiving is nothing special for Mexicans.
So, we decided it would be a gret day to go to Six Flags, which is located about 15 miles from our house. So, the Torbert family, Sori (a secretary at the mission office), and Janell, Nathan, and I piled into the Torbert’s van and went to Six Flags. We had a great time there. It was Nathan’s first trip to an amusement park, and he was really good (as usual).
We finally got into the van to go home around 5:30 pm. It was Friday evening rush hour, and almost 4 hours later, we arrived at home. It was the worst traffic I have ever seen or been in. There was no accelerating for hours. We were stuck. We tried our best to make the most of it, but we were wiped out by the time we got home. Unbelievable! That’s life in one of the largest cities in the world.
I had class today from 8 AM to noon. It was my first day of class of the quarter. I am teaching Youth Culture and Foundations of Youth Ministry 2. I only have class on Wednesdays and Fridays this quarter.
Today, the missionary kids didn’t have school, so Cole and I went to Six Flags after my classes. The park was empty. We got on all of the rides we wanted to get on with very little, practically no waiting. We went on the Boomerang, Batman, Kilahuea, and Superman, among others. We actually rode the Superman ride 6 times. We were only there for 3 and a half hours. You know you’re getting older when you can only go on the ride 4 times before starting to get sick. Just so you know, Superman is 66 meters tall and goes 120 kilometers per hour. As soon as you got off the ride, you could get back on. It was a lot of fun.
Okay, so I am weird. I like to carve pumpkins. This year, I chose a Scooby Doo design. It was one of the more difficult ones that I have ever done. It took me a long time to carve it, and it was really messy. It looks cool, though. It is really early in October, so I will probably have an opportunity to make another one this year. Unfortuately, they only last a little while. Oh, we roasted the seeds, too. They tasted pretty good. You can watch a video of my pumpkin carving here.
Nathan goes to the doctor again tomorrow for a check-up. Tomorrow night is Bible Study with the MCCA kids at our house. After the Bible Study, I’m going to church for a prayer meeting from 9pm-12am. Saturday (my birthday), I think I’m going to Six Flags with the Torberts. Sunday night is youth group at church. Monday is my “day off.” I don’t know what we’re doing then. Probably grocery shopping. Tuesday is class (as usual), and I am preaching in chapel (unusual). It will be the first time I have preached in chapel since last year. The topic is “vigilance.” It should be interesting.
Well, this is it. I’ve got my ticket, church is over, and we are getting ready to go to the game. I’m excited, and I hope that the game is exciting. If you want, you can watch it on ESPN tonight at 8:30 Eastern Time. If you’re hoping to get a glimpse of me, good luck. My tickets are in the upper deck. But, they tell me you can see well from anywhere in the stadium. We’ll see.
