I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since Benjamin was born! He’s grown so much in a year. We don’t have a huge plan for his first birthday since Janell was just in Florida. They had a combined celebration for Nathan and Benjamin while they were there.
We will eat cake, play a lot, and have lots of fun as a family. In the meantime, here are two videos from Ben’s first day.
It’s no secret that I love going to special places with my family. Today we went on a picnic in Chapultepec Park and then went to the zoo.
Chapultepec Park is lined with kiosk type things where people sell lots of things…bubbles, snacks, soccer jerseys, hats, t-shirts, and other things.
On our way into the zoo, Nathan saw a Batman mask and cape that he wanted. We told him that if he was a good boy, we’d get it for him. The price was definitely right (40 pesos = $2.70 USD), so we bought it on the way out.
I posted the following video to 12seconds.tv. It’s Nathan in his new Batman suit, but I think the audio is my favorite part. So turn up your speakers and listen!
Every once in a while I have a deep desire to take my family somewhere special. It’s a time to get away from the demands of ministry and just play together.
We have a few places that are special to our family. We go to the Mexico City zoo a lot, and today we added a new place to our list of special places. Six Flags Mexico is somewhere I hope to visit a lot in the future.
We had a blast. Nathan rode his first roller coaster, and we enjoyed some great entertainment. Hopefully, for a long time I’ll remember him running to me after getting off the roller coaster and asking me to go with him.
One of my favorite parts was watching the Looney Toons show where they sang a lot of American music with Spanish accents. It was definitely entertaining. Watch this video to the end, and you’ll see the Looney Toons show. I hope you laugh as much as I did.
I love how Nathan and Benjamin love each other. Every time Nathan gets near Benjamin, Ben laughs his little head off. Nathan is such a good big brother, too. I hope they stay like this.
Janell recorded this video the other day, and I think it’s so cool how they get along. I’m sure the days will come when they don’t like each other, but at least this moment is preserved for all time.
As we get started with 2009, I can’t help but wonder how it can be better than 2008. A lot of great things happened last year, both in the ministry and in our family.
In case you just joined us on our journey here are some personal favorites from 2008.
2008 Highlights
Trip to Louisville – We were invited to participate in Youth Emphasis Week at the International Center for Youth Ministry. We got to play in the snow and had a great time.
Nathan turned 3 – We got him a tricycle (watch the video). He loved it.
Trip to Honduras with Rob – My friend Rob invited me to Honduras for a few days. It was the first time I had been there.
