They say that missionaries live with something called “background stress.” This is stress related to doing everyday things in a second culture. We experience that a lot in Mexico. Sometimes, the traffic, people, and culture get to you, making everyday events so very difficult. We don’t talk about it much. It is amazing, though, when you return to your home culture, how easy everything is. Today was one of those days. It’s nice to have a few moments without any “background stress.” We went shopping, out to eat, and basically just fit in without traffic or very much stress.
