I was sad today because the water was too cold to go in the pool. We put some in there, I stuck my feet in, and they about froze. So, we couldn’t go in the pool today.
We did go to the tianguis (little side of the road traveling markets) and bought some fruit (also priced some stuff for the group). I also spoke in chapel at MCCA. We went to Sam’s Club, Burger King, Costco, and a Home Improvement Store (to look for boards for the group). We had dinner with the Torbert family, so it was a good day.
I have a meeting tomorrow night with the owner of a gymnastics school about the mats we need for the group, so please pray we get it all worked out.
Today I got lots done. I finished up the grades for this quarter at the seminary. My students finally turned in their work, and I got to finish grading the papers and give final grades. It always feels good when you finish something like that. The highest grade was 95 and the lowest was 83. Those who turned the work in almost on time got much better grades than those who didn’t, as was to be expected.
I also had lunch with a friend who is working with the youth group at Capital City Baptist Church. I went downtown to meet with him, and we had some good conversation. I’m looking forward to seeing what God is going to do at that church. A crazy thing is that he works about 2 hours away from where he lives. I’ll have to post about that another day.
I also finished up the syllabus for next quarter’s class. It will be a continuation of this past class, and we will be covering some things in more detail. I got my schedule, and I’ll be teaching on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:25-11:10. That’s a pretty good schedule. Anytime there’s no class at 7 am, that’s a good schedule.
Janell also bought the tickets today to go to Florida for Kelle’s wedding. We’ll be going there the end of April, right around Nathan’s first birthday, so we’ll be able to have a family birthday party for him.
We had our friends, the Torberts, over tonight for chicken parm. It’s my favorite meal, and it’s also their son Cole’s favorite meal. We had a good time with them, even though I’m a little sick. After dinner, we sat around and talked and watched Nathan be funny with his new tricks he does.
I also saw this cool culture quiz online tonight. Check it out. I got 6 right. It’s harder than you’d think. We also watched the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics this afternoon. We have a whole channel dedicated to the Olympics. Woo hoo!
Have you ever spent hours at the airport when you weren’t traveling? Well, I have. Last night, my friend Rob and I were on our way to pick up our friends from the airport a little after 8 pm when we got a call from Janell. She said that they called and said that they missed their flight from Houston and would not be coming in until 11:16 pm. In any other city, this wouldn’t be much of a problem.
With the traffic in Mexico City, however, we decided to just continue on to the airport. It would take us a long time to get home anyway, so we might as well go and spend some time in the airport. We arrived around 9 pm and had to wait for 2 and a half hours before they landed. We talked a lot, drank some Starbucks coffee (in the new sit-down Starbucks, woo hoo!), and got to know the airport really well (which is looking a lot better with all the new construction).
Today seemed like it took forever. I don’t know why. Here’s what I did.
9:30 – Went to PIB Satelite to meet with a youth leader. He didn’t show up.
11:00 – Left the house for church.
11:30-1:30 – Worship service
1:30-2:00 – Drove back to Lomas Verdes for lunch
2:00-2:45 – Ate tacos and alambre at Los Arcos (one of our favorite places to eat Mexican food)
2:45-4:15 – Watched the AFC Championship game
4:15-5:00 – Drove back to church
5-7 pm – Youth meeting (really a leadership meeting)
7-7:45 – Drove back to Lomas Verdes/went to grocery store
7:45-8:45 – Watched the end of the NFC championship game
10:00 – Ready for bed
Wow. That was a busy day. Tomorrow morning, I’m speaking in chapel at MCCA. It’s the first time this year. It should be good, but I’ve gotta get up early. Good night.
We’ve been back in Mexico for a total of 2 days now, I think. Things have been crazy. There are a lot of things going on.
Yesterday, I met with the president of the National Baptist Youth Union about participating in various workshops on youth ministry this year. I also met our new youth ministry student and taught the first programming class of the year. I have contacted people from our church here in Mexico to see what’s going on, and I also have been planning for a visit from a church in Boca Raton. They will be coming in March, bringing a really cool ministry team with them.
I have lots of grading to do from the classes that I taught last week, and I am preparing for a youth emphasis week in October. I also lined up a speaker for a “youth emphasis” chapel that will be on May 5. That’s enough work in 2 days to last for a while.
