While most of the US is enduring a heat wave, Mexico City has begun to have some cold weather. Right now, it’s noon, and it’s 63 out. It’s rained the last few days, which has helped bring in some cold weather. The high today is supposed to be 68.
Last night was a horrible night. Nathan woke up at 5 am and wouldn’t go back to sleep. He’s been fussy, so we’ve been fussy. It’s not easy to live on a few hours of sleep, especially when you have a meeting in the morning. Then, when you go to your meeting and the guy you’re meeting doesn’t show up, that makes it even worse. At least the “meeting” was at Starbucks so I could get a large coffee and wake myself up a little.
This morning, I’ll be preaching at Renovacion, the church where Huberto works as the youth pastor. I’ll be sharing a story about a boy who sets off to become a knight, using it as a parable for the journey towards spiritual maturity. I am praying that it will connect with people to take a look at their own spiritual journey and see if they have the same characteristics that the boy has as he becomes a knight. I’ll post more later.
I guess the fact that I picked Italy to win the World Cup final didn’t hurt them after all. Despite some weird stuff, it was a pretty exciting game. Penalty kicks are always exciting. It was a great month of soccer.
We watched the game on Sunday after going to Huberto’s church, where he preached about youth ministry. I preach there this coming Sunday about spiritual maturity, and Huberto starts a new youth class, too.
Today, we went to the “tianguis,” the travelling market that comes our way every Monday. They have really good gorditas. I also got a lot of work done, we went to Costco, and watched the Home Run Derby. It was a good day.
Sorry to have been talking about the election so much the last few posts. In case you’re tired of that, here’s a picture that is sure to make you smile.
A bunch of us gringos went up to Mexico City Christian Academy today to cook out and celebrate the 4th of July. We brought ka-bobs and apple pie, and there was so much food. It was a great time to hang out with the other missionaries and celebrate the 230th birthday of the USA.
We also watched the launch of the space shuttle online, played some Farkle, and then we caught the end of the game between Italy and Germany. What a finish! I guess my pick for the winner was off. The crazy thing is that the US tied Italy. I guess now, Portugal has a better chance of winning.
