Pobrecitos

We took Nathan to the doctor today, and he said that he has bronchitis, laryngitis, and an ear infection. He gave us some antibiotics and other medicine to give him so that he will get better soon. Right now, he’s sleeping like a baby.

Because we had to go to the doctor, we had a very non-romantic Valentine’s Day dinner of rotisserie chicken and macaroni and cheese. It’s a good thing we’re celebrating Valentine’s Week at our house.

Happy New Year

We’re just sitting at Janell’s mom’s house waiting for 2006 to get here. We just shot off some fireworks, and now we’re fixing some snacks. Hope you all have a Happy New Year. We hope that 2006 is great. Thanks for your support and prayers during 2005. God has done a lot of cool things this year, and we look forward to seeing how He works in the coming year.

Christmas Dinner visitor

Christmas dinner 2Janell just told me a funny story about our Christmas dinner this year. If you read my Christmas post, you know there were about 25 people over for dinner. I didn’t know, though, that a stranger walked in as we were about to sit down to eat as though she belonged at the house. Apparently, after a few seconds, she realized she was in the wrong house. She was going to Christmas dinner at a neighbor’s house. Oops. We’re such a friendly bunch of people that we didn’t even think twice about it. “Maybe she’s with someone else.”

Time with family

Last night we went to my grandma’s house to spend some time with my sister and her husband. They bought me a poker set for Christmas, so we tried it out with them. We had a lot of fun eating Christmas cookies, candy canes, and drinking coffee. I’m glad they’re in town for Christmas.

We had a great Christmas Day with our family. At dinner, there were about 25 people at Janell’s mom’s house. It was a blast. We got cool presents (click to view a video of my favorite present), and Nathan loved opening the presents. Of course, he wanted to eat the paper more than anything, but it was a lot of fun. I think he had a pretty great first Christmas.

Lack of Background Stress

Tina birthdayThey say that missionaries live with something called “background stress.” This is stress related to doing everyday things in a second culture. We experience that a lot in Mexico. Sometimes, the traffic, people, and culture get to you, making everyday events so very difficult. We don’t talk about it much. It is amazing, though, when you return to your home culture, how easy everything is. Today was one of those days. It’s nice to have a few moments without any “background stress.” We went shopping, out to eat, and basically just fit in without traffic or very much stress.
