Nathan is a genius

WARNING: Proud dad ahead

Nathan did something that amazed me today (click to view video).

He has recently begun to love walking around with the broom (I have no idea why). Today, I was sitting at the kitchen table, and he took the broom stick and used it to switch on the light. I think he is a genius to have figured that out all on his own. Who knows what’s in store for him. If only he’d learn to use the potty and make his own bottle.

Mischievous 2

in the cabinetYou’ve seen the mischievous pictures of Nathan trying to climb up the entertainment center.

Now, we give you the picture of him in the cabinet. He loves playing with the plastic bowls in the cabinets, and he has learned to climb on into them (the cabinets, not the bowls). Here he is inside the cabinet, playing with his favorite toys (plastic containers).

Isn’t it funny how you can get them so many toys, but they prefer to play with other ordinary things around the house? We used to think this was strange, but now we realize that it is normal.

Ah, the pitter patter of little feet.

Going to Ecuador

Ecuador mapThanks to a special donation response to the request in our last newsletter, today we purchased our tickets to Ecuador. We’ll be going in October to meet up with people from all over Latin America who are training youth workers.

This is the first time we will have met with these guys, and we are looking forward to getting to know them. Finally, we’ll have the chance to be with people who understand exactly what we do because they are doing the same thing. Thanks to those who helped us with the donations.

More quotes on brevity

“Ask me to talk off the cuff and I can speak for two hours. Ask me to talk for 5 minutes and I need six weeks to prepare.” – Sir Winston Churchill

“Sorry for the long letter, if I had more time it would have been shorter.” – Blaise Pascal

By the way, I talked today in chapel for less than 5 minutes. The girl who followed me, however, to give her testimony, took up so much time that the other guy on the schedule didn’t have a chance to share. I guess she didn’t get the memo that said, “Keep it to 5 minutes.”

Chapel speaking tomorrow

gloryjoyguidance.jpg

Tomorrow is the third chapel of the year, and they’ve asked me to share. It’s been a week of testimonies about what students did over the summer, so the guy who speaks has only really had 5 minutes. Tomorrow, I’m really going to try to keep it that short.

I read something this week about Mark Twain. The story goes like this.

“When Mark Twain was sent this wire by his publisher ‘NEED 2-PAGE SHORT STORY TWO DAYS.” Twain replied ‘NO CAN DO 2 PAGES TWO DAYS. CAN DO 30 PAGES 2 DAYS. NEED 30 DAYS TO DO 2 PAGES’.”

Tomorrow’s sharing will be like that. It’s a lot easier to ramble than be succinct. I’m going to talk about the benefits of sharing testimony, using Psalm 126 as my text. The three key words are:

Glory.
Joy.
Guidance.

Those words mean that when we share with people what is happening in our lives (aka what God is doing in our lives), God gets the glory, we are joyful, and others are given guidance.

Short. Sweet.
