First Christmas party and Other Things

Yesterday was our first Christmas party of the season. We got together with the teachers and staff at Mexico City Christian Academy, where I speak in chapel twice a month. It was a good time. Nathan absolutely LOVES dogs. They have two of them, and he just couldn’t stay away from them.

Then, last night, Cole and I went to a concert of 6 youth bands from PIB Satelite. It was a pretty good concert, except they needed a little sound help because you couldn’t hear any vocals. Oh well, they’re learning. It was fun. Some of the musicians were awesome.

It’s gonna be an interesting Friday

After this fight (click to watch video) happened today in the Mexican congress, we could be in for some crazy things on Friday.

Officially, Friday is the day when Felipe Calderon is going to be sworn in as the new president of Mexico. He won by less than 1% of the vote, and his opponent has sworn that he will not allow them to swear in the new president of Mexico on Friday. Lopez Obrador has set himself up as the “alternate president” and has been traveling the country to gain more support.

Who knows what will happen on Friday. There’s no class at the seminary, so we’re planning on staying home that day.

The Work is Due

constructionbackgroundToday is the due date for the work for one of my most difficult classes (Programming in Youth Ministry). I have been receiving emails since Monday with the work in them. Since there were 12 students in this class, and each project is around 50 pages long, I have a lot of reading to do.

Many of the projects arrived as a .rar file, which I had never seen before. It’s a different way to compress files. I had to go download a free program to “unpack” the work so I could read it. What I’ve read so far is fantastic. The work basically is a year of programming for a local church youth ministry, which includes budgeting, program planning, etc. I remember this class as a student, and I know that it is difficult. It’s a good thing I’ve got good students. I can’t wait to see them again in January.

Making a statement

11-25-06 Ciudadela- Manifesacion downtown to have ex-Senator of Veracruz punishedThis is one way to make a statement. Our friends went downtown yesterday and got to see this protest.

The crazy thing is that in order to draw attention, the protesters were wearing very little clothing. This seems to happen frequently here, and yesterday was a photo opportunity.

Luckily, we’ve never seen any of these kinds of protests. They always tell us about them. The protest was to punish an ex-Senator from the state of Veracruz.
