I gave the youth ministry students an assignment to go out and interview real young people about their problems. Oscar went to a school in one of the neighborhoods around here, got some great interview footage on video (I’ll post that later), and then got us invited to share at a school assembly.
Next Friday, we are going back to the school to give a talk on dealing with the pressures of being a teenager. It all happened pretty suddenly. I think I even heard that we have two hours if we want. That’s a lot of time to hold people’s attention. We better get our creative juices flowing. What an opportunity!
We scored a place to host the Generación Lideres conference in Puebla, the Spanish equivalent to Youth Specialties’ Core training day (which I’d love to go to this year, but living in Mexico makes it difficult…that’s another post).
We’ll be holding the conference in a university, and it should be great. The only bad thing is that we have to travel to Puebla. Next year, I want to host it in Mexico City.

Every other week, we have small groups instead of chapel at the seminary. I’m not usually a fan of the studies for the week. Not that they’re bad; they’re just not my thing. This week’s study seems pretty useful, though. It’s title is: Daily things in the life of every Christian. Here’s the list:

Remember the “Mi Esperanza” campaign we told you about a while ago? Well, there’s a great article about it in December’s issue of the Decision magazine from the Billy Graham Evangelical Association.
The story talks about a family who invited people to watch the program at a taco place in Mexico City and a church that is overflowing. Thanks for praying for this project. Here’s a quote from the article:
“Mexico is suffering from violence, persecution and other problems,†said Eleazar Leyva Izquierdo, regional My Hope coordinator for the state of Tabasco. “This is the proper time for the Church to show that there is hope for people. It’s not in politics or economics—it is a hope for them in this time of troubles.â€
With this background in place, Christians set to work telling their families, friends, co-workers and even complete strangers that there is hope for Mexico through Jesus Christ.

Wow. I got a lot done today. Here are some highlights:
- Had a great meeting with a guy named Victor who will be teaching a course on counseling youth in his church. I had a great opportunity to share lots of great resources with him.
- Got a lot of work done on the Master’s class on youth ministry I will be teaching in March. (Put together partial syllabus, looked for some reading materials, etc)
- Invited two profs for modular classes.
- Planned most of my summer calendar.
- Made quiz for tomorrow’s youth ministry class.
- Asked Huberto to work on themes for youth emphasis week.
- Got information about the “Generación Lideres” conference.
I feel like I got a lot accomplished. It’s good to not be sick anymore. I’m not even finished yet.
