We woke up this morning to a covering of ice. It is beautiful. I couldn’t stop looking at it. I braved the cold to take some pictures and videos of the icicles forming and covering the trees. Seeing the glistening of the ice on the woods next to our house made it worth walking through the crunching grass to get a close up view of how the ice had overtaken everything.
Earlier this week, Stan Lee, legendary co-creator of many of the super heroes we as a culture have come to love, passed away at the age of 95. If you’ve been online at all, you’ve no doubt seen many posts about how Stan Lee’s characters have impacted many people throughout the years.
The movies alone based on his characters have generated more money than I can imagine, and the stories that have been told by these super heroes have touched so many kids and kids-at-heart.
Our student ministry has been looking at the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39) for the last five weeks. We have especially been focusing on loving God with all our hearts, souls, and minds, loving our neighbors, and remembering how much God loves us, which gives us a proper view of ourselves and allows us to love ourselves properly.
Tonight, we talked through how difficult it is to actually accomplish these things, or DO them, on a daily basis. We talked about how the only real way to be able to do what God wants us to do is by remaining in Him. We likened it to how you must stay near the WiFi or the Bluetooth signal in order for it to work for us. When we stray away, it just doesn’t work. We can no longer hear our music or access the information we want to access. It’s useless. (more…)
From the time I was in Middle School, I’ve been a Duke Blue Devil’s Fan. That’s really hard for some of my Kentucky friends to grasp, especially since I never went to Duke and lived in Florida my whole life.
Since I went to the Champions Classic this week (where Duke played demolished Kentucky), I made a video about why I’m a Duke fan.
I’d love it if you could take a few minutes to watch it…
We tend to see people in categories. Never is this really seen more than in high school. I remember the following scene from the movie Mean Girls…about the high school lunchroom…watch it below.
It’s interesting because humans naturally “group up.” We tend to gravitate toward people who are like us. In anthropology, we call that our “primary group.” It’s really okay to group into those small groups of people who are like us or have similar interests. Community actually happens because we have something in common.
