I’m still trying to figure out why Mexicans INSIST that adolescence doesn’t start until 14 years old. Who taught them this? It’s impossible to me to think of a person who is 12 or 13 as a child. Sure, they are younger than most “teenagers,” but they are definitely changing/growing from childhood to adulthood. Why do we not put 12 year olds in elementary school? Because there are fundamental differences between middle school students and elementary school students.
I am grading a paper that says, “Psychologists say that children from ages 11 to 13 are forming their values that will affect the rest of their lives.” Why must we call them children still? They are adolescents.
I think this is why in general, the Mexican church has ignored middle schoolers. They treat them as children and lump them in with the second graders.
