My students came to class today with a snack. They are chapulines tostados, known in English as toasted grasshoppers.
I didn’t have it in me to try them yet, but if I ever do, you know I’ll video it because it’s more than likely that I won’t eat them more than once (even though my students suggest I’ll like them).
They come toasted, with salt, lime, and garlic on them. They can also be eaten with salsa on them (like on popcorn). I’m seeing the beginnings of a cool youth group game…maybe “Chubby Chapuline” or “Fear Factor.”

I imagined they might be kind of tasty until I looked at the pictures up close. *shudder* Maybe with POUNDS of salt, lime, and garlic on them, so I couldn’t see what I’m eating!
All I hear in my head is Dr. Adams, “use the culture to win the culture.”
And then I hear Weird Al Yankovic, “eat it, just eat it.”
Wow, never thought I’d use the two of them in the same context as one another.

Hi! Oh my goodness, these are sooo gross!! How funny! I just clicked over to visit your blog, and to say thank you so much for your thoughtful email, and prayers for my family. It has really been encouraging to receive so many emails from others who are praying too. I know the Lord is working something good out of this, and I’m keeping track of His blessings every day since the accident. I’ll be sure to post them, and give all the praise to God for all He has done, and all He is going to do with and for us. Thanks again, and I’m so glad that you enjoy our blog!! I hope to hear more from you in the future!!
