We started cleaning out some of our closets, and Shiloh and Benjamin found some painting supplies. Since we didn’t have any painting paper, Janell had the brilliant idea to cut up some cereal boxes (we have plenty of those) so they could do some painting this weekend.
Sunday, smack in the middle of a busy weekend, we had some friends over to celebrate Shiloh’s third birthday. It wouldn’t be a birthday party without cake and a piñata, so that’s what we did.
Today we celebrated Shiloh’s third birthday. I can’t believe it’s been three years since she was born!
When we woke up this morning, we gave her some birthday presents. The boys put their money together to get her a chocolate “Kinder Sorpresa”, and we got her a princess lego/duplo set and a baby princess. She loved her presents.
After work (and day 2 of homeschool) we celebrated as a family with some chocolate cupcakes. Check out the video below:
When bedtime approached tonight she said, “Is it almost bedtime?” When we responded that it was, she said, “But I don’t want my birthday to end.” She had a great day.
We have a little princess in our family. Our little girl loves princess things, and her bedroom wall has princesses all over it. She puts on her princess dress, her tiara, twirls around, and sings, “I’m gonna be a princess.”
This also means that she’s a big fan of Sofia, one of the latest Disney Princesses that has a show on the Disney Channel called “Sofia the First.” We watch it at least once a day.
Sofia and her mom live in the village of the kingdom until, one day, Sofia’s mom marries the king, making Sofia a Princess. They move to the castle, and of course this means that she has to learn all about how to act like a princess. The whole show is about how she messes that up but learns in the process.
To understand what the show is about, read the lyrics to the (as always) catchy Disney theme song:
I was a girl in the village doin’ alright
Then I became a Princess overnight
Now I gotta figure out how to do it right
So much to learn and see
Up in the castle with my new family
In a school that’s just for royalty
A whole enchanted world is waiting for me
I’m so excited to be (Sofia the First)
I’m finding out what being royal’s all about (Sofia the First)
Makin’ my way it’s an adventure everyday (Sofia)
It’s gonna be my time (Sofia)
To show them all that I’m Sofia the First!
As I was walking to work this morning, I couldn’t get that song out of my head. It really is catchy (Click to watch it on Youtube). I was also thinking about how Sofia’s story is like our story.
We are just ordinary people who God chooses to bring into His family through Jesus, making us heirs to the Kingdom. We are now in the process of learning to live according to our new position as His children. We struggle, there are things we don’t understand, but our loving Father the King is right there to guide us through it all.
We truly are adopted into the Royal Family.
We should be like Sofia:
Excited to be part of God’s family
Exploring what it means to be children of the King
Making our way daily in the adventure that God has for us
We ought to be living like princes and princesses today.
