Mother’s Day is a huge deal in Mexico. It’s practically a national holiday. Usually, Mother’s Day in Mexico falls on the 10th of May every year. It’s usually nice for us because it’s not the same day that we celebrate it in the United States. So, usually, the Sunday of Mother’s Day for Janell is different, and the restaurants are empty. But not this year.
So, we’re changing the day we will take her out for Mother’s Day this year. We’ll go sometime during the week when there aren’t as many crowds. We did celebrate a little by letting her sleep in and by not making her change dirty diapers.
Nathan and I also made her a few cards this morning while she was sleeping in. I wrote Happy Mother’s Day on a card, and then Nathan said he wanted to write it, too. He did an excellent job of writing it (see photo). He also drew Buzz Lightyear. On the inside there was a flower.
I think it was a pretty good day. We’ll have to go out to eat sometime this week.
We made him a birthday cake and put Bob from the movie Monsters vs. Aliens on it. We made Bob out of cupcakes. When he saw it, he said he thought we were going to put a flat one (just a drawing) on the cake, and he laid down on the floor to demonstrate what he meant.
He was happy with the cake, though.
I tried to stream live when we were blowing out candles and singing happy birthday to him, but the internet here didn’t want to cooperate. I have some video from before we sang and blew out the candles.
And these pictures from our family birthday party:
Due to the Swine Flu pandemic, we postponed his other birthday party that was scheduled for tomorrow.
Janell wrote that he was four on her facebook status, and I commented: “Four incredible years with my little buddy. Nathan you are definitely one of my best friends in the whole world.” It is definitely true. These have been four great years.
Every March, the weather gets nice enough to play in the sprinkler in our little bitty yard. Nathan loves it. So, in 2007, I took a picture of him playing. Then I took another one last year. I compared the two here. Remember that?
Well, take a look at the difference from last year to this year. Nathan has grown up so much this year.
It’s no secret that I love going to special places with my family. Today we went on a picnic in Chapultepec Park and then went to the zoo.
Chapultepec Park is lined with kiosk type things where people sell lots of things…bubbles, snacks, soccer jerseys, hats, t-shirts, and other things.
On our way into the zoo, Nathan saw a Batman mask and cape that he wanted. We told him that if he was a good boy, we’d get it for him. The price was definitely right (40 pesos = $2.70 USD), so we bought it on the way out.
I posted the following video to 12seconds.tv. It’s Nathan in his new Batman suit, but I think the audio is my favorite part. So turn up your speakers and listen!
I love how Nathan and Benjamin love each other. Every time Nathan gets near Benjamin, Ben laughs his little head off. Nathan is such a good big brother, too. I hope they stay like this.
Janell recorded this video the other day, and I think it’s so cool how they get along. I’m sure the days will come when they don’t like each other, but at least this moment is preserved for all time.
