This is one of my favorite pictures I took yesterday as we went downtown for the Day of the Dead celebration.
The Palacio de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Palace) is one of the landmarks of the city, as are the green taxis that are everywhere. I was so excited to capture both of those icons in one photo.
I’ll post later about my experience at the annual Day of the Dead celebration, when I get my thoughts in order.
Today is the coldest day it has been in a long time here. It has been raining all night and into the day today, causing it to be downright cold.
The National Meteorological Service says that it will only get to 18 C (64 F) today, while other weather services say it will only get to 46 F. The weather channel prognosticates that the high will be 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Either way, it’s freezing to me.

Yesterday we went down to the World Trade Center for the Christian Expo, where bookstores from all over Latin America (especially Mexico) come to exhibit their stuff.
We went so we could look for textbooks for my classes, and we found some really good stuff that is going to help a lot in the future for the youth ministry classes at the seminary.
Here’s a picture of the World Trade Center (in the background) with a restaurant in the foreground.
Last week I started trying to take a picture everyday of something typical of Mexican life. I’m putting those pictures in a set on Flickr called “Daily Mexico.” If you want to see what I see everyday (or something I think is interesting about living in Mexico), check out the set here. If you want to see a slideshow of the set, click here.
After yesterday’s huge photo shoot, the photographer Spencer Tunick stayed and shot more. I think it’s funny that he said this after the photo shoot:
“What a moment for the Mexican art scene!” Tunick said in a news conference. “I think all eyes are looking south from the United Sates to Mexico City to see how a country can be free and treat the naked body as art. Not as pornography or as a crime, but with happiness and caring.”
The guy has obviously never walked the streets downtown, where you have to close your eyes to avoid the pornography stands that are selling it openly.
