Nathan’s Birthday Piñata

It’s not a birthday party in Mexico without a piñata. So we got a Buzz Lightyear piñata for a little party we had for Nathan at our house with some missionary friends and seminary students. It matched his Buzz Lightyear candle we bought and put on his cake.

Here are the pictures:

We had such a great time in Huatulco, playing on the beach and in the pools at Las Brisas resort. Janell knows how to travel cheap, and she found an incredible deal for us to get out of the city for a while.

We picked a great time to go. It was right between Spring Break and Mexico’s Labor Day. In addition to that, there was the swine flu scare here in Mexico, which has left tourist resorts mostly empty. There were times when we were literally the only ones on the beach. We had a lot of fun together as a family.

Here are some pictures from our trip:

Mother’s Day 2009

Mother’s Day is a huge deal in Mexico. It’s practically a national holiday. Usually, Mother’s Day in Mexico falls on the 10th of May every year. It’s usually nice for us because it’s not the same day that we celebrate it in the United States. So, usually, the Sunday of Mother’s Day for Janell is different, and the restaurants are empty. But not this year.

mothersday2009So, we’re changing the day we will take her out for Mother’s Day this year. We’ll go sometime during the week when there aren’t as many crowds. We did celebrate a little by letting her sleep in and by not making her change dirty diapers.

Nathan and I also made her a few cards this morning while she was sleeping in. I wrote Happy Mother’s Day on a card, and then Nathan said he wanted to write it, too. He did an excellent job of writing it (see photo). He also drew Buzz Lightyear. On the inside there was a flower.

I think it was a pretty good day. We’ll have to go out to eat sometime this week.

Nathan turns Four Years Old

Nathan turns Four Years Old

Last Saturday was Nathan’s birthday. I can’t believe it has been four years since he was born. He sure has changed a lot over the years.

We made him a birthday cake and put Bob from the movie Monsters vs. Aliens on it. We made Bob out of cupcakes. When he saw it, he said he thought we were going to put a flat one (just a drawing) on the cake, and he laid down on the floor to demonstrate what he meant.

He was happy with the cake, though.

I tried to stream live when we were blowing out candles and singing happy birthday to him, but the internet here didn’t want to cooperate. I have some video from before we sang and blew out the candles.

And these pictures from our family birthday party:

Due to the Swine Flu pandemic, we postponed his other birthday party that was scheduled for tomorrow.

Janell wrote that he was four on her facebook status, and I commented: “Four incredible years with my little buddy. Nathan you are definitely one of my best friends in the whole world.” It is definitely true. These have been four great years.

You might already know this, but Janell is really good at finding deals on just about everything, saving money, using coupons, and getting free stuff. She started her own blog a few weeks ago called Saving You Dinero (savingyoudinero.com). She posts all sorts of cool freebies and deals.

Today, she posted about the book “Tribes” by Seth Godin. You can download a free copy of Tribes from Audible.com.

Anyway, Saving You Dinero is guaranteed to save you some money (i.e. dinero). So, head over there and subscribe to her blog. She’s already got more subscribers than this blog has. I’m not jealous or anything.

Creatively Supporting Missions

Creatively Supporting Missions

We recently received a donation from a friend of ours who had never donated to the ministry before but we know has a heart for missions and has wanted to support us.

I wrote an email thanking the person for the donation, and they told me that it had come from selling M&Ms to everyone at work.

I was surprised to hear that. What a great idea! I love it when people are creative and look for ways to be involved in what God is doing regardless of personal circumstances!

We greatly appreciate every donation that is sent in to help support and extend the ministry in Latin America. We know that the markets are down and the economy is bad. But there are many people who have stood beside us from the beginning and have continued to stand with us and contribute to this ministry. Thanks!
